bio

Based in São Paulo, Rodolfo Valente composes for instrumental, vocal and electronic media. Regarding music as an element of connection between people and the world, he creates bridges between musical traditions and contemporary sounds without abandoning drama, expression and beauty, or the complexity of being a composer in 21st century Brazil.

His professional beginnings were marked by the theater of Brecht and Weill and his first composition lessons with Arrigo Barnabé, immersing himself in the avant-garde and contemporary aesthetics that guided his studies at UNESP (undergraduate and master's) and USP (PhD), where he studied in depth with Achille Picchi, Edson Zampronha, Flo Menezes and Silvio Ferraz.  In masterclasses and festivals (such as Darmstadt and Campos do Jordão) he expanded his knowledge with Brian Ferneyhough, Hans Tutschku, Heinz Holliger, Phillipe Manoury and Stefano Gervasoni, among others.

Winning several awards, his music has been presented in the Americas and Europe at prestigious events such as Campos do Jordão Winter Festival, São Paulo Electroacoustic Music Biennial and FILE/Hipersônica (Brazil), Encuentro de Arte Sonoro Tsonami (Argentina/Chile), The Waverly Project (USA), Calgary New Music Festival (Canada), Gaudeamus Muziekweek (Netherlands), Vale of Glamorgan Festival (Wales), DME Festival (Portugal), MUSLAB and Perspectivas Sonoras CMMAS (Mexico), Sounding Out The Space (Ireland), Musiques Recherches (Belgium). He also develops collaborations and partnerships with other artists (visual, film, theater, etc.).
